Once a task is created, it moves through a workflow from Open to Done. This guide explains each step and who can perform it.
The Task Workflow
Open → In Progress → Done
Each transition requires a specific permission. Your System Admin configures which roles can perform each action.
Starting a Task
When you begin working on a task, mark it as In Progress so your team knows it is being handled.
- Find the task in your My Tasks or Today view.
- Click the task to open the detail panel.
- Click Start.
- The status changes to In Progress and the start time is recorded automatically.

Only the assigned staff member (or a Supervisor/Manager) can start a task by default.
Completing a Task
When the work is done:
- Open the task detail panel.
- Click Complete.
- The status changes to Done, the completion time is recorded, and your name is logged as the person who completed it.

A completed task cannot be edited. If a task was marked Done by mistake, a Manager can reopen it using Override Status.
Reassigning a Task
If a task needs to be handed to a different staff member:
- Open the task detail panel.
- Click Edit (or the Reassign button if available).
- Change the Assigned To field to the new staff member.
- Click Save.
The task remains in its current status — only the assigned person changes. The reassignment is recorded in the task history.

Reassigning requires Supervisor or Manager permission by default.
Overriding a Task Status (Manager Only)
In some cases a Manager may need to set a task to any status directly — for example, to reopen a task closed by mistake, or to mark an incomplete task as Done.
- Open the task detail panel.
- Click Override Status.
- Select the target status.
- Click Confirm.
The override is logged with the manager’s name and timestamp.
Manual Carry-Over
If a task cannot be completed today and should be scheduled for tomorrow:
- Open the task detail panel.
- Click Carry Over.
- The due date moves to tomorrow. The carry-over count increases by 1.
Manual carry-over always pushes to tomorrow. Automatic carry-over (overnight) always pulls to today. See [Carry-Over & Overdue Tasks] for details.
Task History
Every action on a task is recorded — creation, status changes, reassignments, edits, carry-overs. To view the history:
- Open the task detail panel.
- Scroll to the History section at the bottom.
